The Story of the Son Rise Morning Show
It began simply enough on September 4, 2007, with two hours of locally produced Catholic programming each weekday morning for tri-state Catholics. Opening each hour in prayer, incorporating the daily Mass readings, honoring the saints, and conducting informative interviews, we tried to create a program that would help the listeners of Cincinnati’s Sacred Heart Radio start their day a better way. Years later, that program, which has been supported through your prayers and donations, is now helping listeners in more than 200 cities across the U.S, as well as around the world, begin their day with a Catholic perspective on a spectrum of issues that we face on a daily basis.
The Son Rise Morning Show truly owes a debt of gratitude to the Holy Spirit. One need only look at the last several years. Within the first year, the Son Rise Morning Show was expanded to three hours. Year two brought us to a world-wide audience, as EWTN decided to carry one hour of our show and distribute it to their affiliates.
Just one year later, two hours of the Son Rise Morning Show was being carried on EWTN’s rapidly expanding network of Catholic radio stations across the country.
In our years of producing the Son Rise Morning Show, we’ve talked to guests from six continents, including bishops and cardinals, as well as Catholic astronauts, doctors and teachers, and others who have been trying to live out their faith in whatever walk of life to which they’ve been called. Cincinnati-style Catholicism is now being broadcast to a nationwide-audience: You’ve seen such Catholics from the tri-state such as Fr. Rob Jack, Rita Heikenfeld, Paula Westwood, Dan Egan and Kevin Prendergast take their gifts from our local area to nation and world.
Some of you have been with us as we’ve experienced some of the more exciting aspects of our journey: being visited by the late Cardinal John Foley of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications as we made the announcement that our show was being syndicated; joining us for our 10th anniversary conference with Fr Mitch Pacwa, Al Kresta, Teresa Tomeo and Dr. Ray Guarendi; the acquisition of new FM stations to spread the reach of Sacred Heart Radio, and all those Masses where we promised a special announcement would follow Holy Communion.
We take Communion seriously, and we take communication seriously. We don’t take lightly our responsibility to keep you informed and educated on all that our universal Church has to offer. God willing, the next five years will bring even more surprises as we continue to find ways to offer our very best to the Father of Lights, the Giver of all good gifts. You are a gift to us. We hope to begin many more days together with The Son Rise Morning Show!
